Zigbee for asset tracking application

ZigBee
Hello, The advantage of mesh networking has attracted my attention towards learning Zigbee technology to design a sensor for asset tracking. Can a sensor network, for example, the one for tracking various auto parts in the storage area of an Auto parts store be developed using Zigbee? If yes, can anyone please provide with some details on the network components that may be used. Regards, Avinash

Using Zigbee for RFID

Avinash: You can use ZIGBEE for that. I think you need to decide first what results (deliverables) you want out of the network. If you want to track actual parts or merely track inventory then your approach would most likely be different. If the parts are small widgets verses finished consumer products then again the approach would be different. Namely because of costs associated with implementing a ZIGBEE network verses ordinary RFID Tags. Sit down and write a Requirements Document first. If you are dead set on ZIGBEE, then a low cost RF transceiver and controller would be your best approach. There are two ways to implement ZIGBEE: through a software stack only and through a ZIGBEE compliant hardware and software combination.
